Expecting too much from SP1?

Vista

Over the last week or so people have gone Vista SP1 crazy! it seems quite a few are expecting a lot from SP1 but apart from a few tweaks and fixes…..well that’s it :) So I think I should remind everyone this isn’t XP SP2, it’s more like a service pack 1 should be, just fixes.

In my previous posts I made a list of what SP1 is going to get fixed and I don’t expect any more from Microsoft. Adding new features and programs at this point would simply create more bugs. So only expect a faster more reliably Vista but in my experience I have had that since launch.

Xbox 360 Chat Pad

Vista

Meet the Xbox 360’s new hardware gadget. It basically slots on the bottom of your controller turning it into a QWERTY-style miniature keyboard for use with the live messenger integration on the Xbox 360.

Granted you could just plug in a USB keyboard but having the keyboard so close to hand is much faster and easier. There’s nothing worse than chatting to someone when you’re let’s say…….playing Rainbow Six Vegas online! As typing with a controller will lose you a few kills at least and reaching down to your USB keyboard is no better.

So overall it ain’t much of a looker but it’s a great idea and for only $29.99 (around £15) you can’t complain. The only problem I see is that it plugs into your headset jack so unless it has another jack planted on the side of this baby, might be a problem for people with wired headsets.

Halo 3 Xbox 360 Controller’s

Xbox 360

Yet again we are seeing more Halo 3 merchandise and I must say most of it has been quite good, until now. Microsoft has released two limited edition controllers both halo 3 themed one Spartan and one covenant. To put it in the nicest way possible they are the ugliest piece of hardware I have ever seen, just take a look! They look like they were painted in some dodge porcelain factory in china.

The only good point i can think of is the fact that there wireless, even still would you pay $59.99 for one?

Windows Live Onecare 2.0 Beta

live

Onecare 2.0 includes lots of cool new features but by far the greatest is the ability to manage the security status of multiple computers on your network.

Onecare can be installed on 3 computers meaning you can manage the status and preform tasks for all these machines on one master computer. No longer do you have to go all over your house sorting out your partner and kids computers when something goes wrong. This is a fantastic concept that will save time and keep you and your family secure.

Other new stuff incudes Windows Live ID login, so you can receive product updates, support and news. Also the backup service has been updated to allow all 3 computers to be backed at the same time via the Windows Live Oncecare online backup service.

Microsoft is really trying with this product and personal i think its great. It integrates with your system well and it runs nicely in the background and most importantly its not heavy on your system unlike some security suites.

So why not check out the beta you have nothing to lose as its totally free and it lasts 120 days.

Get it here and see what you think
